Golfers Advised To Take Care Of Equipment

Golfers Advised To Take Care Of EquipmentBritons are spending significant amounts of money on golf equipment, new research shows.

A study carried out by LV= reveals that just under a fifth (19 per cent) of households own at least one set of golf clubs. The average set was indicated as costing 480 pounds and with the US Masters tournament starting this week, it was claimed that many budding Tiger Woodses may be getting on to the green in the weeks to come.

For those who are looking to purchase the latest equipment to help them get to grips with their swing, applying for a loan could be advisable.

In addition, the study also showed that half of club-owning consumers have not used such equipment for the last six months. Overall, it was revealed that some 1.1 billion pounds worth of golf gear could be lying around and gathering dust in the nation’s cupboards and sheds.

The home insurance provider also pointed out that despite the high amounts of money that Britons are spending on sporting kit, a significant number of consumers are leaving such items at risk. It was revealed that more than 1.9 million people store athletic equipment either in an unlocked shed or unsecured garden. Furthermore, some consumers were shown to be placing their possessions on display from their cars.

As such, Brits were advised of the need to take out an adequate personal possessions insurance policy to help cover golf clubs, fishing rods and other sporting equipment while in use outside of the home.

However, should consumers have an insufficient insurance policy, or indeed lack cover altogether, those who find their sporting equipment has been stolen may find that they have to meet the cost of replacing such items themselves. This could impact upon their capacity to manage other financial demands such as personal loan repayments, credit card and utility bills and council tax costs.

Commenting on the figures, Emma Holyer, spokesperson for LV= home insurance, said: “It’s easy to forget how much it costs to replace sporting equipment such as golf clubs. We tend to think that the most costly things to replace are jewellery or electronics, but sporting equipment can cost hundreds if not thousands of pounds for specialist kit.

“People using sports equipment outside of the home should ensure they have personal possessions insurance cover. This not only covers items like mobile phones, money, laptops and bags, but also sports equipment when it is away from the home. As electronics become increasingly difficult to sell on, some thieves are now targeting sporting equipment as it’s easy to sell on the black market.”

Whether a keen amateur golfer or somebody who enjoys a few rounds on a Sunday afternoon, those looking for an effective way to purchase the latest clubs, tees and accessories could find a personal loan might be advisable. By obtaining such lending, borrowers could meet the cost of such equipment quickly and may be left with an affordable level of repayments to make. In addition, the financial assistance that a loan provides could help consumers to purchase a comprehensive insurance policy.

A personal loan may also be of assistance to those parents looking to treat their children. Recent figures by Engage Mutual show that 49 per cent of mums and dads have bought a gift for their offspring after they moaned about wanting something. In order to meet such demands, half of parents claim to have sacrificed buying a luxury item for themselves. Games consoles, DVDs and designer clothing were indicated as being among the items children requested the most.
