Halifax Reveals Popularity Of Foreign Weddings

Halifax Reveals Popularity Of Foreign WeddingsDreams of having a foreign wedding are becoming an increasing reality for many Britons, a new study shows.

In research carried out by Halifax Travel Insurance, it was revealed that getting married abroad is becoming more sought-after by consumers due to the fact that British weather can often be unpredictable. Furthermore, it was stated that a rising number of overseas hotels and venues “offer competitive wedding packages” allowing a couple to make sure arranging their marriage is a less stressful occasion. In comparison, the financial services firm stated that getting married in the UK can be an expensive occasion.

For those looking for an effective way in which to fund a wedding, whether at home or abroad, getting a personal loan could be recommended.

The popularity increase in getting married abroad was also attributed to a number of celebrities - including Wayne Rooney and Coleen McLoughlin - choosing to have their big day overseas.

Overall, the Caribbean was said to be the most popular destination for a foreign wedding, followed by the Hawaiian island of Maui and the Amalfi coast in Italy. Las Vegas, the location of Peaches Geldolf’s recent marriage, came fourth, followed by Gretna Green. The top ten most sought-after foreign wedding destinations was rounded out by Cuba, the French Riviera, Disneyland Paris, the Californian destination of Napa Valley and the Cape Town vineyards in South Africa.

However, those who lack a sufficient level of insurance may find that they have to dip into their own pockets and purses to replace lost or stolen items and pay for transport following the cancellation of flights. Not only could this put a dampener on a couple’s big day but it could also affect their ability to manage other areas of financial constraint, such as loans and credit cards, upon their return home.

Commenting on the figures, Vicky Watson, spokesperson for Halifax Travel Insurance, said: “Destination weddings are comparable to planning a holiday overseas and it is important to consider travel insurance as a mandatory aspect in the wedding preparations. The bride and groom may also want to consider taking out the additional cover that specialist wedding insurance providers can offer, while guests travelling abroad will need to ensure they have a travel policy that includes cover for loss of baggage. Delays in flights and loss of luggage holding expensive items such as wedding outfits can cause havoc and heartache for couples on their way to getting married.”

She added that it is crucial for couples to take out comprehensive travel cover before leaving Britain as it means that they can be certain “they will arrive at the wedding destination ready for the big day”.

For those consumers wanting an effective way to finance getting married, obtaining a personal loan could be recommended. By selecting such a loan, borrowers may be able to meet the cost of rings, wedding outfits, venue hire, transport and other expenses quickly, leaving them with a low-rate monthly repayment to make. The monetary assistance a loan offers could help people to take out comprehensive insurance to help protect them should the worst happen. Getting a personal loan might be especially helpful after a study by Alliance & Leicester earlier this year showed 15 per cent of those getting married believe it is crucial to have a designer wedding dress, with such an item shown to cost an average of 1,310 pounds.
